www.owensoundsuntimes.com/2014/06/10/longboarders-a-safety-concern-for-residentsGrey Highlands council wants to stop an invasion of longboarders, who use the steep streets in the Amik subdivision in the Beaver Valley adjacent to the former Talisman Mountain Resort. Built on the top of the escarpment, Amik contains steep streets with blind curves. Resident Bill Sloan described longboarding as “skate boarding on steroids” during a presentation to council Monday...

Also I'm glad to see the council is refraining from knee jerk reactions and the idea to install a longboard park is interesting but must likley a pipe dream. I'm pretty sure dexter and hev were the ones he talked to

I've skated that area many times as a stopover during my commute to Owen Sound last year.
Grey County has already outlawed DH on any county roads (ex. Grey 7, Grey 12) but now (iti s my understanding that) this private community around talisman wants the county to outlaw alternative activities on smaller residential streets.
Grey County is also very much gung-ho on the "share the road" campaign, designed to increase awareness and promote cycling tourism to the area. To ban an alternate method of transportation and enjoyment would have implications that would ripple across the 1500km² county.
Some serious implications could arise from Mr. Sloan's ill-informed and misunderstood powerpoint efforts; and not just for longboarders.

That saddest part is that this is probably true. Our own worst enemy is a significant chunk of the sport's population Not true. I slid to a stop and talked to the dude politely when I saw him taking pics of us to ask if there was a problem. Tried to cool down the situation and explain how we ride safely. We left after I saw how angry he was.

just a heads up: the new owners (aka Brian Ellis and co.) have not yet purchased the ski hill area of the former Talisman resort, just the building structures. The hill is still owned by the municipality of Grey Highlands, and you know they just loooove longboarders
